Labour and Birth
You can choose to deliver at home or at Botany Maternity Unit or at Middlemore Hospital.
Home birth or birth at Botany Maternity Unit is an option for you if:
- no complications are anticipated
- you do not want medical intervention including an epidural
- you have had a normal birth previously
If problems during labour occur and you have chosen to birth at home or Botany Maternity Unit you can be transferred to Middlemore Hospital for specialist care.
You are attended in labour once it has established or when you request midwifery assistance. If the labour is long, a backup midwife is available. Two midwives are usualy present at the time of birth including a homebirth.
